Best Solid Wood Vinyl Storage for 2026

Most guides to record storage are written by people who have never built any. This one isn't. We've been making vinyl storage furniture in Portland since 2015, and in that time we've learned that choosing the right piece comes down to two numbers and one question.

The two numbers that decide it

How many records do you own, and how fast is that growing? Be honest about the second part. Almost everyone who writes to us a year after buying says the same thing: they wish they'd sized up. Records accumulate faster than furniture does.

How much wall do you actually have? Measure it. Not roughly — with a tape. The difference between a piece that fits and one that doesn't is usually four or five inches, and it's the single most common reason someone ends up disappointed.

The one question: does your turntable need a home too?

This splits everything we make into two groups.

Some of our pieces include a table surface sized for a record player — typically 18" by 16", which fits most full-size decks. Your turntable sits at a comfortable height with your records directly beside or beneath it. That's a listening station.

Others are storage only. They hold records beautifully and go anywhere, but your deck lives somewhere else. If you already have a console, a shelf, or a table you like, storage-only is often the smarter buy — you're not paying for a surface you won't use.

How much fits where

Here's the whole line, sorted by capacity. Widths are the actual footprint, so you can hold them against your tape measure.

Elliott 400+ 50" Yes, soft-close drawers

Crates and smaller pieces

If you're storing a working selection rather than a whole collection, the Cube and the Milk Crate Alternative hold 12" LPs, and the 7-inch Crate is sized for singles and 45s. The record dividers work with any of it.

When width matters more than capacity

Two pieces hold 400 records. The Irving does it across 47 inches. The Hamilton does it in 32.5 — the same footprint as our standard Turntable Station — by building upward instead of outward.

If you have the wall, the Irving is the easier piece to live with; everything sits at one height. If you're short on wall and long on records, the Hamilton is the answer, and there isn't really a second option.

The same logic runs down the line. The Deluxe holds 300+ in 28.25 inches. The Turntable Station holds the same in 32.5 but gives you a surface for your deck. Neither is better — they solve different rooms.

What about growing into it?

A fair number of people buy one piece and add a second within a year or two, which is why everything we build is designed to sit alongside everything else. Same finishes, same wood, same proportions. A HalfStack next to a Deluxe looks intentional rather than accumulated.

If you're between two sizes, our honest advice is to take the larger one. We have never once heard from someone who wished they'd bought smaller.

Why we only build solid wood

Records are heavy — a full bin can run well over a hundred pounds — and particleboard shelving sags under that load in a way that gets worse every year. Solid wood doesn't. There's also a sound argument, which we go into properly in our guide to storing your record collection: a heavy, stable base under a turntable keeps floor and speaker vibration out of your cartridge.

Everything here is cut, joined, and finished by hand in our Portland shop from Pacific Coast maple and oak, sourced through small family-owned mills in Oregon. It ships fully assembled and it's guaranteed for life.

Questions we get a lot

Will my turntable fit?

Our listening stations have an 18" by 16" table, which accommodates most full-size decks including the common Audio-Technica, Pro-Ject, and Rega models. Measure your deck's width and depth and compare. The Vinyl Storage End Table is the exception — its top is 13.75" by 14.5" and suits compact or portable players only.

How many records is "400" really?

Roughly four linear feet of standard sleeves. Gatefolds and box sets take more room, so if a lot of your collection is doubles and reissues, plan on the lower end of any range.

Do I need the legs?

Only if the piece is standing on its own. Every station offers a no-legs option so it can sit on a credenza or table you already own, which is often the better look in a smaller room.

How long does it take?

Everything is made to order, so allow 4–6 weeks from the day you order. Shipping is free within the continental US and pieces arrive fully assembled — you'll attach the legs with a Phillips-head and that's it.

What if I'm still not sure?

Write to us at hey@wickerwoodworks.com with your collection size and the width you have to work with. We'd rather spend ten minutes helping you pick correctly than sell you the wrong thing.
